Frequently asked questions
Getting there
The Isles is just off the main A82 Glasgow to Fort William road
at the village of Ballachulish. It is well signposted. Coming
from the south if you get to a roundabout you’ve gone too
far so go right on round it and head back again. Coming from the
North if you reach the village of Glencoe then you’ve gone
too far.
For local road conditions call reservations on 01855 812946
or visit ITV teletext page 160.
Your arrival
When you arrive at The Isles, we have two large car parks. There
are a small number of car parking spaces right at the front door
including three disabled spaces. If it’s easier for you,
you are welcome to park temporarily just outside the front door
to load and unload your luggage. Please ask if you would like
any help with your luggage. You may find it more convenient to
check in at reception without your bags and we can then identify
the most convenient parking space for your room.
Your bedroom will be available from 3pm on your specified day
of arrival and will be guaranteed for your first night only. If
you arrive earlier we will be delighted to store your bags for
you.
On your day of departure we would ask that you vacate your room
by 12am. We do offer a late checkout facility up to 1pm at an
additional cost of £10.00 per hour. This must be confirmed
to Reception before 8am on the morning of departure.
If you are staying on with us, our housekeepers will need access
to your room before noon if you wish it serviced – otherwise
we will simply leave a bale of fresh towels and a supply of Tea/Coffee
outside your door.
What is the Isles actually like?
The Isles is a very informal hotel - the atmosphere comes from
the large number of families who use the hotel and the fact that
we have a lively restaurant and leisure centre. There is no dress
code for the restaurant where people enjoy dressing up or down!
When can we use the Leisure facilities?
The Pool, Bio-Sauna, Turbo Seat and Exercise Room are open from 7:00am
to 10:00pm (8:00pm for children). To gain free entry to the Centre
just take your key-card along to reception at The Isles. Towels
may be hired at The Isles for £1. A condition of using the
facilities is that you must comply with club rules, a copy of
which is available from reception. Children under 16 must be accompanied
by an adult at all times in the pool on a ratio of 1 adult to
2 children. Children under 16 are not able to use the bio-sauna
and hydro-seat. For health and safety reasons, children under
17 must be accompanied by an adult in the exercise room.
Can I bring my pet with me?
Whilst most pets are welcome, for the safety and comfort of all
guests pets must be kept under the owners control at all times.
A charge of £10 per pet per night applies. Dog owners are
asked to keep their dogs on a leash until they reach their designated
room and do not allow their dogs into the Restaurant, with the
exception of Guide Dogs.
What are the meal times?
Table d’hôte Dinner 6:30 - 9:30pm
We will ask you to book a preferred dining time as this avoids
us having to ask you to wait when you come to the restaurant.
We change our dinner menu daily to reflect the availability of
the best local produce and guarantee that all of the choices are
created freshly with care in our kitchen. In planning our menus
we seek to offer you a choice between dishes prepared in the classical
simple Scottish style and alternative dishes which have world
influences in their seasoning and presentation.
Breakfast 7:30 - 9:30am
(Sunday 7.30am - 10.00am)
We invite you to help yourself to our buffet featuring healthy
options or a traditional cooked Scottish breakfast. Please note
that the buffet can be extremely busy in the last 30/40 minutes
- especially on Sundays.
Bistro 11.00am - 6:00pm
For lunch or meals at other times of the day our All Day Bistro
menu offers something to suit all tastes.
Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits are available in your
room, or you may order beverages in the lounge area and charge
these to your account.
What about children’s meals?
If they wish, your kids can dine at the Children’s Dinner
Table at 6pm. The menu features Melon & Strawberries, Super
Burger, Fish Shapes, Half Baked Potato, Carrot Cake, Fruit and more. The Children’s
Table should be booked direct on the “kids blackboard”
at the restaurant entrance. After dinner we usually show some
children’s films in a special room. Details are posted during
each day on the kids blackboard.
Alternatively your children are welcome to dine with you later
in the restaurant when they can choose from the Table d’hôte
menu or children’s menu. Children who dine from our Table
d' hote menu will be charged a supplement.
Dinearound
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for you to dine at our
sister hotels, The Ballachulish Hotel and The Oban Caledonian
Hotel. Please book your table as early as possible after arrival
at the hotel to avoid disappointment as all the restaurants can
be extremely busy and tables are allocated on a first-come first-served
basis.
What is your smoking policy?
From 1 November 2005 the hotel will be completely non-smoking.
How can people get in touch with me?
The direct telephone number to the hotel is 01855 812946 and
the fax number is 01855 811770. These numbers are manned 24 hours
a day.
